Sitting on London’s South Bank with the Thames on its doorstep, The National Theatre brings the craft of world-class theatre-making to corporate events.
Behind one of the capital’s most recognisable cultural landmarks is a collection of event spaces that runs from a panoramic rooftop deck to intimate riverside rooms, all backed by an award-winning hospitality team.
We caught up with The National Theatre team to talk about the rooftop moment that stops guests in their tracks, and how sustainability is reshaping the events they’re asked to deliver.
If your venue had a personality, how would you describe it in three words?
Creative, inclusive, ambitious
What’s one feature or space in your venue that always wows corporate clients?
The Buffini Chao Deck – our rooftop events space – consistently delivers the “wow” moment, with panoramic views of the Thames and London skyline.
What’s your dream corporate event to host, and why?
A dinner on stage with live performances – bringing clients directly into the heart of theatre-making. It captures what makes the National Theatre unique: storytelling, creativity and shared experience, turning a corporate event into something truly unforgettable
What sets your venue apart from others in the corporate world?
We combine world-class hospitality expertise with versatile event spaces in one of London’s most iconic cultural landmarks. From bespoke creative input to full technical support, every event benefits from the same craftsmanship that goes into our productions, alongside a central riverside location and exceptional hospitality
What’s your “hidden gem” feature that people might overlook?
Our breadth of spaces. Beyond the headline rooftop, we offer everything from intimate meeting rooms like the Foyle Room to vibrant riverside venues such as The Understudy – each with its own character, allowing clients to create something completely tailored.
How does your team make every event extra special?
Our in-house team collaborates closely with clients to design bespoke experiences, blending creative thinking with attention to detail – from food and drink to lighting, layout and atmosphere – ensuring every event feels personal and memorable.
How does your team ensure every corporate event runs smoothly?
With expert planning, dedicated event managers and seamless delivery. Our team anticipates every detail in advance and draws on extensive experience to deliver events with precision, so clients can focus on their guests.
What type of corporate events does your venue attract most?
We host a wide range; from conferences, meetings and training sessions to gala dinners, product launches, receptions and large-scale celebrations – all looking for a setting that feels inspiring and different.
What corporate event trends are you noticing, and how is your venue adapting to them?
There’s a growing demand for experiential, purpose-driven events with strong sustainability credentials. We’re responding by offering more creative, immersive formats and embedding sustainability into every aspect of our events – from plant-forward catering and local sourcing to energy-efficient spaces and a commitment to net zero
Finally, what’s your go-to song for hyping up before a big event?
“On Top of the World” – because every event here should feel like a show-stopping moment.
The numbers work as well as the setting does. The Buffini Chao Deck seats 100 for dinner, Lasdun matches it with warmer interiors for evening celebrations, and receptions across the building can run to 200.
The theatre is fully accessible throughout, licensed until 2am, and a short walk from Waterloo for guests arriving by train or staying nearby.
